Holidays on Peachtree Street
Holidays on Peachtree Street
Atlanta Freedom Bands kicks off its 33rd season with “Holidays on Peachtree Street”, featuring seasonal selections that highlight the landmarks along our city’s most famous street. Peachtree Street is always aglow with holiday lights and happenings. Our program takes us from the elegance of the Fox Theatre to the dizzying heights of the Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel. Along the way we take in the madness of the DragonCon parade, the memory of Backstreet, and the mayhem of SnowMageddon. We even take a side trip along to the famous Royal Peacock on Auburn Avenue for a night with Ray Charles.
AFB is proud to welcome our new Artistic Director O’Shae Best to the podium, conducting the band in his first concert. Mr. Best is the Director of Bands at Fayetteville High School and brings a wealth of experience conducting in the middle school, high school, and collegiate settings to AFB. We know you will enjoy meeting him and seeing his artistic influence on the band.
AFB will welcome Victoria Lemos as your host and tour guide to all the sights. Victoria hosts the Archive Atlanta podcast, and she is looking forward to telling you some of the hidden histories behind these famous places. You will leave educated and entertained!
The tenth season of AFB’s Student Composer Residency Program will kick off with the world premiere of “Midnight Snowfall”, a new work by Jacob Cirabisi, a music major at the University of West Georgia. You won’t want to miss the chance to meet this up-and-coming compositional talent.
AFB’s Season 33 concerts have the unifying theme “No Places Like Home”, with each celebrating a place we call home. Our holiday concert celebrates the City of Atlanta, and we will follow in March with “Georgia on our Minds” and in June with “Americans We”. We hope to see you at all of them.
