Atlanta Freedom Bands’ Concert Band concludes its 20th anniversary season with music that will uplift the spirit and soothe the soul.  “In Concert with Hope” will explore the dimensions and power of hope in our lives.  The concert program features stirring pieces like “Jupiter” from The Planets by Gustav Holst, soulful selections from Aretha Franklin and Louis Armstrong, songs that inspire, and works that call us to choose joy and hope for the future.

Capturing all the elements of hope in one concert is a tall order.  AFB’s Artistic Staff have assembled a program with music that is joyful and solemn, courageous and powerful, inspiring and just plain fun.  Our musicians hope everyone enjoys this escape from the news of the day and leaves feeling uplifted for the future.

AFB will welcome guest conductor Laura Estes to the podium for the concert.  After a 36-year career as a middle and high school band director, she retired from the Cobb County School System in 2018 to become a composer. With her piece “Walking on Air”, she was named the winner of the 2021 Women Band Director’s International Composition Competition. Her works are performed across the country at All-State events, music conventions and regional honor bands.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 seniors, $10 students.
The concert will also stream live from AFB’s YouTube channel.

The program includes:
“And Hope Led Them Home” by Patrick Roszell
“True Colors” by Cindy Lauper
“Changing Currents” by Laura Estes
Selections from “The Greatest Showman” by Pasek/Paul
“Satchmo!”, music of Louis Armstrong
